Our Story
Longview Park – Healing Through Horses began with a simple idea: the relationship between people and horses can unlock powerful opportunities for connection, self-awareness, confidence, and personal growth. What started as the Equine Empowerment community program has grown into a broader farm-based wellbeing and empowerment service that incorporates horses, other animals, nature, practical activities, nutrition, life skills, psychosocial support, and community connection.
Conveniently located in the Mid North and the local Port Pirie community, Longview Park provides a welcoming, supportive environment where people can develop confidence, discover strengths, build practical skills, and work towards greater independence. While horses remain at the heart of Longview Park, our vision now embraces the whole person—supporting wellbeing, participation, and personal growth through meaningful experiences.
At
Longview Park, we recognise that people think, learn, process information, and
interact with the world in different ways. We believe this is a normal and
natural part of being human—not something that needs to be ‘fixed’ or ‘cured’.
Every brain works differently, and these differences bring unique strengths and
challenges.
The Longview Philosophy
People develop holistically through connection, experience, encouragement, and meaningful participation.

Theres nothing standard about me!
In my previous life, I was a spirited pacing racehorse, driven by an unstoppable will to win—and I did, with all my heart. When an injury ended my racing career, I found myself at a crossroads. Fortunately, my journey led me to Kristal & Skye, who not only welcomed me but truly cherish Standardbreds like me.
With their care and patience, I was given all the time I needed to rest and heal. Their support helped me recover, and now, I proudly embrace my new role as a Longview Park healing horse.
These days, I find immense joy in helping people on their own healing journeys. My heart is full, and I have so much love to share with everyone I meet.

I might appear shy at first, but that’s just my strong Brumby instincts at work—my heritage is Australian Brumby, and those wild roots run deep.
When I first arrived here, I was completely untamed and in rough shape. It took a long time and a lot of patience for Kristal to gently earn my trust, as I was truly scared of the world around me.
Now, I’ve found my forever home, and I can’t imagine being anywhere else. I feel safe, loved, and understood.
I don’t always let strangers get too close, but every now and then, if I sense a gentle soul, I might just surprise you with my affection.
One thing’s for sure—I absolutely adore Kristal & Skyes Clients & Kids!

Meet Our Big Grey, affectionately known as Deags or Squish.
Not every racehorse is destined for the winner’s circle. Our big grey Thoroughbred began his journey on the track but found that racing simply wasn’t his calling. After his racing days ended, he found himself at a sanctuary for unwanted horses, facing an uncertain future without purpose or belonging.
Everything changed when he arrived at Longview Park. Here, he embarked on a lengthy rehabilitation journey, one that required both mental and physical healing. Through patience, care, and compassion, he discovered a new sense of self-worth and direction.
Despite the loss of one eye along the way and the devastating loss of his best mate, “Nigel,” he has never let it diminish his spirit or generosity. Today, he is a cherished member of our team of healing horses, offering love, guidance, and valuable lessons to everyone he meets. His resilience and gentle presence inspire our clients, proving that every soul has a unique gift to share—regardless of their past or perceived limitations

Meet Our Main Man and Herd Leader
A true champion on the track, Mako made his name as a winning Standardbred pacer. At the very top of his game, he sustained an injury that brought his racing career to an abrupt halt. As he faced an uncertain future, his owner reached out to Kristal with a heartfelt question—would she be willing to give him a new home? Gratefully, Kristal welcomed him into her life.
Adjusting to his new chapter wasn’t easy. With a strong, dominant personality, he could be pushy and challenging to handle. Kristal’s experience and patience were tested as she worked to earn his trust and respect. Through their journey together, a powerful bond grew between them.
Today, he stands as Kristal’s loyal and protective “heart horse,” leading our herd with wisdom and strength. He is not only a trusted partner to Kristal but also an invaluable member of our healing horse team, offering guidance and support to all who come to Longview Park.
